Dr John Cooper MBBS FRCP MD

Dr Cooper will stop taking private referrals from 1st March 2022 pending his retirement summer 2022.

I trained at UCL and Westminster hospital, graduating with a first class BSc in pharmacology in 1981 and qualified in medicine in 1984. After working in London, I trained in general medicine in Leicester and Cardiff. Here I spent 2 years trying to recreate the atherosclerotic plaque in vitro: hard work recognised by graduating with an MD.

I entered into specialty training in cardiology as a registrar at UCL and Middlesex hospitals, and a senior registrar at Glasgow Royal Infirmary. I have been in post as a consultant at Bedford Hospital since 1996 and performed coronary intervention at Papworth Hospital until 2010 when the coronary intervention service started at Bedford.

I have been instrumental in the development of local services which now includes cardiac pacing, coronary angiography and coronary intervention.

I have a broad experience in general cardiology and general medicine. I enjoy evaluating new therapies.
I am the lead cardiologist at Bedford Hospital and The Chairman of the Hospital Resuscitation Committee. I am passionate about delivering high quality personal care to my patients
