Dr Michael Mallouppas BSc (Hons) MBBS MD (Res) MRCP​

Dr Michael Mallouppas is a Consultant Cardiologist at Bedford Hospital. He was born and grew up in Cyprus and moved to the UK to study medicine at University College London (UCL). He graduated with a First Class Honours BSc in Physiology in 2006 and with a Merit in Medicine and Surgery in 2009 from UCL and continued his junior doctor training in London prior to moving to the East of England for Specialty Cardiology Training as a Registrar.

The last two years of his training were in Royal Papworth Hospital and Addenborkke’s hospital in Cambridge, with training in Advanced Heart Failure and Cardiac Imaging with particular interests to Cardiac CT and Cardiac MRI. Between 2018 and 2020 he undertook a research fellowship at the prestigious Hatter Cardiovascular Institute in London and University College London Hospitals to successfully complete an MD research degree in the field of cardio-oncology performing clinical research in patients suffering cardiac complications from the effects of chemotherapy for cancer. His research allowed him to participate in the Bart’s Hospital/UCLH Cardio-Oncology Service and present in international conferences and publish in peer reviewed journals.

 

He has been appointed as a Consultant in Bedford Hospital since October 2021, where he is an integral member of the Heart Failure service as well as supervising and reporting Cardiac CTs at Luton Hospital and part of the team aiming to develop Cardiac CT service at Bedford. He is accredited in Cardiac CT by the British Society of Cardiovascular Imaging.

 

He has a special interest in general cardiology as well as heart failure, cardiomyopathies, cardio-toxicity from chemotherapy (cardio-oncology), valvular heart disease, hypertension (high blood pressure) and coronary artery disease and sees patients with a variety of symptoms including chest pain, palpitations, breathlessness, dizziness, and collapse.
